PLACEMENT SPOTLIGHT: George White Chosen as San Mateo’s New Community Development Director

City of San Mateo

We are pleased to announce that the City of San Mateo has appointed George White as its new Community Development Director. He is currently the Planning Director for the City of Pacifica and will start at his new post on September 22. George was chosen after a comprehensive recruitment process, during which his 26 years of community development and planning experience were highlighted as a major asset.

As Pacifica’s Planning Director, George has responsibility for the management of the Planning, Building and Code Enforcement Divisions. Throughout his career he has been involved in every aspect of community development, demonstrating vital leadership and team-building skills. His impressive Northern California career includes serving Counties of Calaveras and Monterey along with the Cities of Petaluma, Palo Alto, and Saratoga.

San Mateo’s Community Development Department is undergoing a major transformation and our client was precise about the type of leadership qualities that were most important at this critical time. “George brings the needed technical experience and can see the vision that is needed for making our Community Development Department more effective,” said San Mateo City Manager Larry Patterson. “On behalf of the entire organization, I look forward to having him as part of the City’s Executive Team.”

White holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Land Use Planning from San Francisco State University. A native Californian, George is familiar with the Bay Area and brings an unparalleled passion for both cities as well as his profession.
