We are pleased to celebrate the City of La Quinta’s recent selection of David Newell as their new Director of Design & Development. Known as The Gem of the Desert, La Quinta is nestled between the Santa Rosa and San Bernardino Mountains in the Coachella Valley and is recognized for its exceptional quality of life and commitment to thoughtful development.
Prior to joining the collaborative team in La Quinta, David served as Community Development Director for the City of Banning and previously spent more than 18 years with the City of Palm Springs, advancing through progressively responsible roles, including Assistant Planning Director. Throughout his career, he has led both current and long-range planning activities and programs and has successfully implemented process improvements – an especially strong fit for La Quinta given its focus on efficiency and reputation for customer service.
David began his role on January 6th and will oversee planning, building, and permit services at The Hub, supporting the City’s goals of maintaining a beautiful, well-maintained, and safe community, while fostering high-quality development. He will also provide leadership on a variety of special projects.
He holds a Master of Public Administration from California State University, San Bernardino, and is AICP-certified through the American Planning Association.
