PLACEMENT NEWS: Pasadena Names Two New Deputy Fire Chiefs

Following a six-month nationwide search, City of Pasadena Fire Chief Bertral Washington announced the placement of two new Deputy Chiefs: Jon Trautwein as Deputy Chief of Operations and Eugene Campbell, Jr., as Fire Marshal and Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention and Administration.

As Deputy Chief of Operations, Jon brings over 21 years of experience in a wide variety of positions within the Pasadena Fire Department and has served as Acting Deputy Chief of Operations for the last ten months. His prior Department service includes four years as a Battalion Chief in the areas of Operations, Emergency Medical Services, and Training, and as a Fire Captain, Paramedic, and Firefighter. He also served four years as the Pasadena Fire Management Association President and seven years on the Pasadena Firefighters Association Board. In addition to recently completing the first year of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy, Jon holds State of California Chief and Fire Officer Certifications and a Bachelor’s Degree from California State University, Northridge.

Gene brings 23 years of fire service experience from the Cities of Las Vegas and Dallas where he served respectively as Deputy Chief and Assistant Chief.   His extensive industry experience also includes community risk reduction, training, homeland security and overseeing major special events. Gene’s distinguished career in the fire service is supplemented by his most recent tenure as Director of Safety and Security for Plainfield (NJ) Public Schools. Early on in his career, Gene was a Police Officer with the North Las Vegas Police Department and also served in the United States Air Force. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program and the Naval Post Graduate School’s Executive Leadership program, holds Chief Fire Officer Designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence along with numerous other leadership credentials. Gene holds a Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Work Force Education, both from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.
