After a nationwide search, the residents of the City of South San Francisco have a new police chief to start the new year! Current SSFPD Captain Scott Campbell, a 23-year veteran of the force, was selected from an impressive slate of candidates to move the department forward.
The PD made the announcement on Friday on their Facebook page.
Scott Campbell joined SSFPD as a police officer in 1998, and steadily moved up the ranks to corporal, sergeant, lieutenant and captain, gaining experience in a wide range of officer and management duties, including 20 years with the Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) team. He is known for his inclusive and collaborative management style with his fellow officers.
In an interview with The Daily Journal, the new chief said, “The biggest priority is to build and continue to rebuild relationships with our communities, especially our residents of color, our residents of low income. We need to revamp all of our community outreach programs … part of our culture is community outreach and building those relationships.”
We are honored and pleased to have managed the recruitment of behalf of City Manager Mike Futrell. We are confident that the residents of South San Francisco will benefit from Scott’s passion for and history with the community, and his commitment to effective community policing.
We wish Chief Campbell the best in his new duties!
