The City of Escondido has announced the selection of West Covina Captain Ken Plunkett to serve as its new Chief of Police. Offering more than 27 years of broad policing experience and a distinguished record of public service, leadership and community engagement, Chief Plunkett will begin his new role in September.
“We are thrilled to welcome Chief Plunkett to Escondido,” said City Manager Sean McGlynn upon sharing the news. “He is a proven leader with a collaborative and community-focused approach. His extensive experience, strategic mindset, and passion for public service make him the right person to lead our department forward”.
Fun facts – Chief Plunkett began his public safety career as a Fire Explorer before transitioning to policing with LAPD and then moving on to West Covina where he has served for the last 25+ years. He holds both Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Cal State Long Beach and is a graduate of California’s POST Command College.
