Albany Welcomes Police Chief Greg Galliano

Greg Galliano

We are excited to celebrate the arrival and swearing in of Greg Galliano as the City of Albany’s new Police Chief. Chief Galliano comes to Albany with nearly 20 years of municipal policing experience having most recently served as a Lieutenant and Acting Captain in the Sacramento Police Department.

“Chief Galliano brings extensive experience as well as a solid commitment towards collaborating with community partners and city leadership on public safety priorities,” said City Manager Nicole Almaguer. “His work has focused on a number of major initiatives including strategic crime reduction, policy development, leadership and critical incident training, accountability, and community-based problem solving. We are confident that Chief Galliano’s leadership will build upon the existing excellent leadership within the department and further our ongoing commitment to public safety and community service.”

Our candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Davis and a master’s degree from Fuller Theological Seminary. Greg is also a graduate of PERF’s Senior Management Institute in Policing and the University of Chicago Police Leadership Academy. He currently serves on the Academy’s Advisory Committee.

If you’re not familiar with Albany, it is the coziest and coolest city in the East Bay that sits just north of Berkeley and is home to approx. 20,000 residents. Nicole has served as City Manager since 2017, and we are endlessly grateful for her support and trust.
