Congratulations to the City of Ventura (Calif.)! After a national search, the City has hired Danielle Keys as its new Human Resources Director. We at Teri Black & Co., LLC, are proud and happy to have managed the recruitment that brought Keys and the outstanding team at Ventura together.

The City announced the news last week, with the following release:
Ventura City Manager Alex D. McIntyre is pleased to announce the hiring of Danielle Keys as the new Human Resources Director, following a competitive nationwide recruitment. She joins the City from the Ventura County Fire Department, where she led its human resources efforts.
With over 18 years of public sector experience, Danielle has a broad human resources background, including policy, training development, labor relations, absence management, recruitment, and hiring.
“Danielle is an innovative and creative professional with a passion for employee relations and a dedicated focus on increasing diversity and inclusion in public service organizations,” said McIntyre. “We are looking forward to having her fill this important leadership position and join our team.”
Under the direction of the City Manager, the Human Resources Department is responsible for recruitment, employee and labor relations, classification and compensation, training and development, benefits administration, workers’ compensation, risk management and liabilities, and other services.
“I am so excited about the opportunity to bring my experience and spirit of innovation to this role with the City of Ventura. I love this work because it allows me to team up with people who value integrity as we work together through challenges and triumphs to make a difference for our community and this City.”
Since 2017, Danielle has worked at the County of Ventura, where she served most recently as the director of human resources managing 605 employees with the Ventura County Fire Department. Her diverse range of experience includes holding senior management positions in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, including local school districts and city organizations. Danielle holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix.
Danielle will assume her role as the City’s Human Resources Director on January 4, 2021.
