Another piece of positive news this week as San Leandro City Manager Fran Robustelli announced that Janelle Cameron will be the next assistant city manager, starting Sept. 13. Cameron most recently served as the administrative services director for Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD).

“I am humbled to be chosen as San Leandro’s next Assistant City Manager,” Cameron said in a city media release. “The opportunity to support the City Council, City Manager Robustelli and the amazing employees is an honor of a lifetime. I am especially grateful to serve the citizens of a community that is near and dear to my heart. I lived there for many years, and my daughter, nieces and nephew were longtime San Leandro Crusaders.”

Cameron holds a Master’s of Business Administration from Saint Mary’s College and will oversee the City’s Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Library departments. Among the key initiatives she will lead are development and implementation of the City’s race and equity work; implementation of a new financial system; community engagement in the budget; and police oversight implementation.

“Janelle’s work co-chairing HARD’s Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) program and implementation of an automated financial system are notable, and will help move San Leandro forward well into the future,” said Robustelli. “She also brings leaderships skills of collaboration, communication and accountability, all which will add to our team of highly skilled professionals.”

Cameron also brings a nice mix of public and private work in her background. In addition to her time at HARD, she also spent nine years with the Central Costra Costa Solid Waste Authority; Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream in Oakland; and other private businesses. She keeps current with memberships in several professional organizations, including the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers, GFOA, MMANC and others.

TBC is honored to have managed this very successful recruitment for the City of San Leandro, and we wish Robustelli and Cameron a lengthy and successful partnership!
