Congratulations to Christian Murdock on being selected as the City of Mountain View’s new Community Development Director! Christian was thriving as the Planning Director in the City of Pacifica where he spent nearly 10 years progressing through the planning ranks and contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of complex planning and land use issues. It’s that experience along with his collaborative team-oriented approach, passion for coaching and mentoring staff, use of technology to optimize processes, and ability to navigate complex issues grounded in current legislation and legal decisions that impressed the Mountain View team.
In the words of Mountain View City Manager Kimbra McCarthy, “I am thrilled to welcome Christian to Mountain View. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the role and has led numerous complex, long-range planning projects that involved extensive community engagement. Christian’s expansive background, ranging from leading a comprehensive General Plan update to assisting small businesses, gives him the breadth of experience needed to help build the Mountain View of Tomorrow. Christian is known for being a creative problem solver and excellent communicator, dedicated to continuous improvement efforts. With his collaborative and team-oriented focus, he is ready to put his strategic mindset to work in one of the most active development project pipelines in the Bay Area.”
Our candidate holds a Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning from Michigan State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Colorado. In addition to his local government experience in Pacifica, Mission Viejo, and the City and County of San Francisco, Christian spent 14 years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve.
