Palo Alto Selects Alan Kurotori as Utilities Director

We are honored to celebrate the City of Palo Alto’s appointment of Alan Kurotori to serve as the new Utilities Director. Over the last eight months, Alan has served as the City’s Utilities Director Chief Operating Officer, bringing over 30 years of industry experience to the role.

In making the announcement, City Manager Ed Shikada stated, “Alan has a strong track record of operational excellence, innovation and community engagement and is well positioned to lead critical priorities such as utility reliability and infrastructure advancements, environmental sustainability and innovative service deliver to meet the needs of our utility customers.

Alan has served in several executive level municipal utility roles including over 20 years with the City of Santa Clara as Water & Sewer Utilities Director, Assistant City Manager during the construction of Levi’s NFL Stadium and Assistant Director of the City’s Electric Utility (Silicon Valley Power). In addition, he has private sector experience having served as an engineering consultant.

Recently elected to the Board of Governors for the California Municipal Utilities Association, Alan is a registered professional civil engineer and holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from UC Berkeley.
