We are over the new moon excited to join the City of Palo Alto in celebrating the selection of Stephen Lindsey to serve as the City’s next Fire Chief. He currently serves as Deputy Chief in the Palo Alto Fire Department, an agency he has been dedicated to since 2005. “Stephen’s two decades of service in Palo Alto, commitment to learning and leading others, strong communication and extensive fire and emergency medical service experience will position him well to advance Palo Alto’s fire and emergency medical service priorities,” said Ed Shikada, Palo Alto City Manager.
During his time in Palo Alto, Lindsey held the positions of firefighter, apparatus operator, fire captain, and fire investigator before being promoted into the role of battalion chief in 2019. In 2021, our candidate was promoted to acting Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal before his formal promotion to Deputy Chief in 2022.
Chief Lindsey holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from San Jose State University. He is currently a participant in the International Association of Fire Chiefs Fire Service Executive Development Institute, and has completed numerous other leadership development programs, including the Stanford Local Government Institute.
