Fremont City Manager Karena Shackelford has appointed Floyd Mitchell to be the City’s next Police Chief.
Upon making her announcement Karena stated, “Chief Mitchell brings more than three decades of law enforcement experience to Fremont and a well-earned reputation for steady, thoughtful leadership. Having strong experience as a police chief in prior agencies, he has demonstrated time and again his integrity, accountability, and fairness. His collaborative spirit embodies exactly the kind of executive management our community expects and deserves.”
Most recently, Chief Mitchell served as Police Chief of the Oakland Police Department following his service as Police Chief in both Lubbock and Temple, Texas after coming up in the Kansas City Police Department, ultimately rising to the rank of Major.
Chief Mitchell holds both master’s and bachelor’s degrees in business administration from Baker University in Kansas and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, PERF’s Senior Management Institute for Police, and other advanced leadership programs. Our candidate also served in the United States Air Force before beginning his career in policing.
