We are delighted to celebrate the selection of Michelle Kuka to serve as the County of San Mateo’s new Director of Human Resources. Michelle will oversee a department of 78 team members and an annual budget of more than $26 million. Our candidate is a longtime leader in the County and her new role places her at the helm of recruiting, retaining, developing, and supporting a workforce of more than 6,000.
Upon making the announcement, County Executive Mike Callagy stated, “Every service we provide depends on talented and committed employees. Michelle knows what it takes to recruit and retain a strong public workforce. She’s helped shape the department for years, and she understands both what employees need to succeed and what residents expect from County government.”
Before beginning her service as Interim Director earlier this year, Michelle most recently served as Deputy Director of HR. As Director, she will focus on enhancing strategic partnerships and innovation to strengthen recruitment and retention, expanding career development opportunities, and modernizing HR practices.
Michelle holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
